Smart Accounting Software History

The system was first designed in 1981 by A. P. d’Abbadie, a Chartered Accountant.

The “DOS” system was called “GAAP”. The system became very popular with bookkeepers and Financial Accountants. GAAP was founded by the d’Abbadie family and designed for international use.

Mr A P d’Abbadie is a Chartered Accountant who has been in practice for 40 years and has concentrated his attention on small and medium clients. He has acquired a great deal of experience in handling entrepreneurs and understands their attitudes and their mode of operation. Philippe d’Abbadie is himself an entrepreneur. His son is now head of GAAP Point-of-Sale (Pty) Ltd. A system designed for restaurants and hotels.

I leave you this small legacy for those who want to become ”self- taught “ in accounting and bookkeeping.

Please study the accounting terminology that is available on our site and in the SMART manual. Remember do not pass a word one does not understand as it is the worst “block in learning.”
